Arizona: PFAS cleanup alternatives open for comment at Air Force Plant 44

Arizona • PFAS and groundwater

Public comment period: October 21–November 20, 2026

Wildroot discussion published November 1, 2026

The U.S. Air Force is seeking comments on alternatives for addressing PFAS in groundwater at the former Fire Engine Wash Outfall area of Air Force Plant 44 in Tucson. An Engineering Evaluation and Cost Analysis describes the alternatives and the recommended approach.

Why it matters

Historical firefighting and equipment-washing areas can warrant attention during environmental due diligence. For a property buyer, the practical questions include whether a release has been documented, where groundwater impacts extend, and whether water-use restrictions or ongoing investigation affect the property. This proposal concerns a specific site and does not establish conditions at other Tucson properties.
