Nevada brownfield spotlight: assessment and cleanup before redevelopment

Nevada • Brownfields and property reuse

Ongoing project spotlight reviewed November 1, 2026

This is a summary of NDEP’s current-project listings, not a newly announced funding award.

Nevada’s Brownfields Program lists Phase II sampling at the historic Sutro Tunnel property in Dayton, petroleum-contaminated soil excavation at the former Fearless Farris gas station in Wells, and preservation consultation preceding anticipated lead and asbestos abatement at Gardnerville’s Nishikida Laundry Building.

Why it matters

Redevelopment can involve several distinct environmental tasks: assessing potential soil or groundwater impacts, removing contamination, and managing hazardous building materials. A Phase I ESA can identify concerns that help define the next step, but it does not replace sampling or an asbestos and lead survey. Funding eligibility, current project status, and agency requirements should be confirmed directly before planning a transaction.
